Who’s crazy enough to visit the Magic Kingdom on Christmas Eve? We are! It’s the second busiest day of the year! Although, walking through the park, there were times we came to a complete stand still, I’m glad we went. In the reliable Disney fashion our experience was “Magical”. Main Street invited us in with glorious Christmas decorations and harmonious Carols flowing out of various speakers. The excitement of the crowd magnified the electricity in the air, adding to my enthusiasm.
We knew when we planned our visit, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the popular rides. Our aim was to take in the day and get in the lines with the least wait time.
I need the use a wheelchair if I’m walking long distance. It’s made me aware how rude people can be; and not just at Disney. Everyone is in such a hurry. They don’t pay attention to anything around them and when they bump into my foot plates, they turn around and give me a nasty glare; and I’m not even the one driving! I’m also a short person who’s shorter in a wheelchair. It doesn’t matter how I situate myself for prime viewing of a special event, someone ALWAYS stands in front of me, usually sporting a massive hat!
On the other side, I’ve encountered generous and kind persons too; people who apologize for being in your way, young persons who open the door for you and smile while they’re helping. The older gentleman that you get in line in front of him. These are the humans I try to remember when all around me are frantic. If I don’t it will ruin my day.
I was not aware that a wheelchair offered extra perks! We were treated with special entrances that allowed us be in front of the line. Sometimes I was able to ride with my chair. When we arrived at The Haunted Mansion the attendant ask if I could transfer from the chair to the ride? She explained the floor would be moving like an escalator; all I needed to do was hop on.
Hop on? My mind started questioning my ability to “hop on”. My BFF (aka Husband) assured me I could do it with his help. My daughter piped in, “You can do it Mom”. I was having a serious discussion with myself as I drew closer, and when I stepped on the conveyer I froze! My BFF guided to the ride but my feet wouldn’t step up. Someone shut down the conveyor and I was able to “hop on”.
I wanted to ride The Pirates of the Caribbean but I wasn’t able to span the space between the dock and the seat of the boat (that’s moving). That try left me disappointed and embarrassed, but after some time I crawled out of my head and felt better. I lived through it!
We ate too much junk food because that’s what we do, and waited on Main Street for the firework show. I find it funny that you’re not tired until you stop or you find out what time it is. It was a long day for me and I felt it, but when the show started it was worth waiting for! It was magnificent!
I was able to ride It’s a Small World and as we all know that song keeps playing in your head, hours after you leave the ride! I’d like to share some lyrics with you, wishing you a “Magical” day!
It’s a small world after all, it’s a small world after all, it’s a small world after all, it’s a small, small world.
Here’s hoping it sticks in your head…
