I was almost done writing the blog I posted yesterday when my husband asked if I wanted to go for a bike ride. All I needed to finish was download the pictures so I said yes. We purchased a cool 3- wheeler because I’d taken 2 minor falls off my 2-wheeled bike already. My husband wanted to insure that would not happen again. I love riding the new bike! It’s also great therapy. We had the bike shop do some modifications to make it easier for me to use the brakes and added a lower gear.
About 20 minutes into the ride we crashed into each other. We were attempting to turn around only he turned one way while I turned the other. I hit his back wheel with my front tire and the momentum caused me and the bike to flip over. We weren’t even going fast! I recall my butt sliding off the seat and my back slamming into the asphalt ending with the handlebars across my face.
Now I know what shock feels like. I didn’t want to move. I didn’t want my husband to remove the bike. I just wanted to lay in the middle of the road and not be touched. I heard a woman ask if she should call 911 . I said no I just needed a minute so she offered a chair for me to sit in. My husband thought I should get out of the middle of the road so he pulled the bike off and sat me up. I couldn’t feel my body so I didn’t think I was hurt but I didn’t want to get up. He offered his hands forced me into the chair.
He left me to get the truck and I started to regain my senses. I wiggled my toes and lifted my legs and all was fine but I couldn’t lift my right arm. By the time my husband came back the pain in my arm was intense.
I arrived back “home” from the ER wearing a sling to support the fracture below my left shoulder. It’s my first broken bone.
When I wrote about my fears in the last post it never occurred to me that I might break a bone. The pain was almost unbearable and I have a high tolerance to pain! It’s going to put a kink plans for a bit but I survived and it’s going to be a great story down the road! Talk about diving into the deep end!
